Tomorrow we're off to Cotopaxi, the closest volcano to Quito, in the Avenue of Volcanos. (Actually there are several others closer, but this is the closest active volcano) We have an early start and a long day, which is the start of 10 days of big adventures. So we thought one more mellow day in Quito would be good for us.
We had to go to Old Town so decided to visit what is claimed to be the oldest street in Quito, La Ronda. Oldest since colonial times. Obviously, there are Incan streets that are older. It was really quaint, tiny narrow streets in the area. We had lunch in Old Town. Then once again headed to the park for....can you guess? Futbol!
Paid the Gringo tax for a cab to the other side of town, bought a bathing suit for Kieran along the way, then remembered the Vivarium. So we headed there first. Finally, some futbol time was in order. That ended quickly though when some creepy man started badgering me for who knows what.
We walked "home" to our B and B to have a home cooked meal with Noemi, one of the other guests here. We had a nice long night in the kitchen talking about everything under the sun, but the boys especially appreciated what she shared about the Galapagos. She's a French researcher who has lived in the islands for the past 12 years, so had many interesting things to share!
At the end of the night there was a big firework display that could be seen from the balcony. Another good end to a good day!

So great to see the photos! Love you guys! - Dad
ReplyDeleteI want to know about the awesome hat. looking good!
ReplyDeleteBoth boys hats were purchased at the market in Otavalo. One made of locally dyed wool by a tiny Otavalena, the other a Panama Hat, made of local reeds. Though Panama hats were made popular in Panama, they were originally and typically still made in Ecuador.
ReplyDeleteTORTUUUUUUUUGA!
ReplyDeleteGreat trip! So glad to see some of it here. Erin shared it - I didn't even know!! Love it.
