Puno is a bit of an armpit that is used mostly as a junction for getting to other places. We spent an extra day here when Kieran was sick, having had to postpone our island trip so he could rest. And now we are spending another day for Reyn to rest due to his being sick.
Fortunately, it's a small walkable town and we were still on vacation so, though most people might not appreciate it, we were happy to use the day to appreciate being a happy, healthy family on vacation...even if we had yet another night of no sleep due to the loud people above us and were on who knows what day of no showers due to the hot water repeatedly going out on us!
We spent the day making arrangements to get to Arequipa, checking out a small but wonderful local art and culture museum, hanging at the Plaza de Armas and eating bad ice cream. We caught a late afternoon bus to the Canyon Country where we had booked a room in a restored colonial hacienda, hoping the upgrade might mean that sleep and warm water were on our horizon! After a 4 hour bus ride on a winding road we arrived in Arequipa to be greeted at the bus terminal by a guy holding a sign with our name.
A whole day with no mishaps and everyone mostly healthy, this hadn't happened for us in 4-5 days! Woot!
